Good morning!

We have had an exciting week!  Today we will begin reading Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.  It is a wonderful book we will all enjoy.  In math we have been learning about divisibility and factorization.  Yesterday we learned how to find the greatest common factor.  Science class is always fun and we are learning about ecosystems and keeping the balance.  It was so nice outside this week that one day we went outside and has class outside sitting on the ground.

There will be a science test tomorrow and we will play the review game today.  I look forward to seeing you nextw eek for conferences.  Have a great day!

Good morning!

We already took our English test today.  Next week we will learn about possessive nouns.

In reading we have been learning about cities, and places to live.  After we finish this new unit in several weeks, we will being reading a whole novel together!  Yesterday we learned about first aid.

Social Studies has been very interesting!  We learned about the silk road and how the secret was smuggled out of China.  We are beginning world exploration and the finding of the "New" World.  You can see our silk art and facts in the hallway.

In science we are learning about the systems of the body.  We have already made diagrams of the heart and the respiratory system.

We also enjoy writing.  We are busy at work on eyewitness account essays.  I can't wait to read them.

Good afternoon!  I hope you get the chance to do something patriotic, or even just think about our country and the fallen heroes.

This has been another exciting week!  We wrote 3 verse 4-line poems that are hanging in the hall.  Just today we wrote haiku poems.  In science we are learning about different kinds of cells and labeled an animal cell.  In Social Studens we learned about the 5 Iroquoin tribes.  The Iroquois Confederacy was created and led by a famous peacemaker.  Our 5th graders know about Hiawatha.  We are multiplying decimals by whole numbers and other decimals.

Next week on Tuesday there will be a math quiz on multiplying decimals.  And on Wednesday there will be a science test on chapter 2.

Have a great weekend!

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Good morning!

We had out first Mass of the year that was planned by grade 5.  It was wonderful!  Sister Jeannine even stopped by the classroom afterwards to say what a great job they did.  The servers, readers, and singers did a perfect job.

On Tuesday of this coming week we will have a new student!  We look forward to giving her a warm SMSA welcome.  We are writing letters to her and we will give them to her on Tuesday.

Our first Science test was this week and was successful.  In reading we have been learning about the orphan trains.  In math we have continued to review, and we multiplied 3 and 4 digit numbers by 2 and 3 digit numbers.  We also learned the multiplication properties, which we are currently working on.  Our social studies class has had fascinating information about the Native American Woodland tribes.

Have a fun, safe weekend.

Good morning!

As the weather turns from summer to fall, I suggest that students bring a jacket to school.  Also, I would like to remind you that plain navy sweatshirts may be worn in the classroom since we made the converstion from the St. Augustine and St. Mary uniforms to the SMSA uniforms.

Until Mrs. Wiz returns, PE may or may not be outside.  Please dress for the weather.  It's better to have a jacket and not need it than need one and not have it.

Have a great day!

1st Week

The first week is coming to a close already.

We have had our first set of spelling words and have read some great stories.  We are also hard at work on Personal Narrative writing.

We have learned about classifying organisms in Science.  Social Studies is all about our nation.  I love the timelines the students have created.

We've gotten a good review in on our subjects and look forward learning more!

Tomorrow is our first spelling test.
