Notice to Parents!!

Good afternoon!

I wanted to make sure that you were aware that after-school tutoring is available from me after each school day except on Wednesdays. I told this students this, and I have already had people stay for help.

We will have student conferences tomorrow, on TUESDAY. Students should know where they are academically, and be able to tell parents their grades.

ALSO, students with a grade in any subject that is an F must be reported to sports coaches. I believe that academic probation will then be placed in effect for that student.

It was nice seeing everyone for Lunch with your 5th Grader. I think this is a wonderful tradition to have, and I think it is wonderful you were able to be there. Recess was extra-fun, and I enjoyed watching you all play sports together.

I switched out the monitor on my computer and you can email me at school now. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have had.

Valentine's Day is Saturday. On Friday, the 13th, we will celebrate from 2:00-3:00. We will play candy heart bingo and musical chairs. Also, students MAY bring Valentines. but they must either bring one for everyone, or none at all. I will address this with the students as well.

If you need to contact me, please email kvweltzin@yahoo.com. I was pulling down the map last week and it came crashing down on the computer monitor attached to the computer that has my school email. The monitor will be switched out sometime this week.

We are currently doing a lab experiment related to salinity and water evaporation in Science. We have also begin fractions in math. Today we will being draftin our descriptive essays. This is just a little of what we have been doing in class. Fell free to email me or send in a note with questions!

There are still some students who do not have a copy of Where the Red Fern Grows. They need it no later than Monday.

Come and see our monochromatic paintings in the hallway. We've been learning about shading and applied this technique with paint.

We will begin a new chapter ins Social Studies today. We will do a Science Lab next week.

I hope everyone had wonderful holidays! This time of year is always refreshing.

We came back from our Christmas and New Year break and jumped right in. We have been doing graphing and coordinate maping in Math. You can see our planned cities on our bulletin board.

In Science we have been studying different land biomes. This week we will get into water biomes.

We just took a reading Test last week. Beginning in 3rd quarter we will move away from the textboox and into a novel. I will be sending home a paper with information about this tomorrow.

In Social Studies we have been learning about Christopher Columbus and explorers of the "New World." We just began Cortez's encounters with the Aztec empire.

We also learned a new art technique for drawing called shading.

Today is a short week because of Thanksgiving. We are working on diagrams of flowers in science. There is a math chapter 3 test today as well.

Last week we attended Mass Wednesday and Friday. This morning (Monday) we went again to celebrate Thanksgiving. I expressed to the class that although we spend more time in church this year than last, I still expect students to listen and participate. Even though we are attending more, students are retaining their reverence and serious approach to worship. Behavior in Mass has been very good. Keep it up!

On Tuesday when we come back from Thanksgiving break there will be an English chapter Quest, and a Reading Test on Wednesday.

Dear parents,
It has been brought more and more to my attention that several students have been disrespectful to me and their peers.

I ask that you speak with your student about proper conduct during the school day. Students are NOT to call each other "retarded" for any reason. Things that are even said in a joking manner may not be seen as a joke to the person on the receiving end.

I ask that they be made aware of their peers feelings and be extra sensitive to others during this year with the merge. Some students have known others for years, but the "joking" is way out of control.

Student disrespect to friends and peers or school authority (Ms. Ruef, Father Bill, Father Stan, or any teacher) WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Student homework is NOT to be completed in class in a few minutes before it is turned in. Homework needs to be done at home. I sign all the planners with my initials so you know I saw it with the work that needs completion.

Please check with your student on their assignments.

The science plant project is due on FRIDAY November 7th.

1. The Social Studies test will be postponed until tomorrow for an extra day of review.

2. Students will receive a small science project for our new chapter on plants. They will receive the details today.

I hope you had a nice weekend! The weather is cooling off, and the leaves are changing. ^_^

This Thursday there will be a Science chapter test. On Friday there will be a SS chapter test.

Halloween is this Friday and we will have a class party for the last hour of the day.

Band instrumenst are to be kept in the classroom from now on, and NOT on the stage in the gym. This is for security purposes.
